Objective and Purpose of the Assignment

ADB Ventures is the venture capital arm of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) that invests in early-stage

technology companies solving big problems in emerging Asia and the Pacific. ADB Ventures Investment Fund

1 is capitalized at $60 million and has a strong focus on addressing climate change and empowering

women. The fund will invest for commercial returns in cleantech, fintech, agricultural technology, and

health technology solutions. Fund 1 is augmented by the ADB Ventures technical assistance that leverages

ADB's expansive operational networks, relationships, and strategic partners to help portfolio companies

scale and to identify additional investment opportunities. ADB Ventures will co-invest with the private

sector including family offices, angel investor syndicates, and venture funds. ADB's vision is for ADB

Ventures to crowd in more than $1 billion of venture risk capital towards achieving the sustainable

development goals in emerging Asia and the Pacific.

ADB Ventures is looking for a highly motivated and talented individuals. ADB Ventures offers a unique

entry point into the venture capital and impact investment industry.

Scope of Work

As an important member of the ADB Ventures team, the Associate will be involved in the Seed program

activities, including deal origination, due diligence, deal execution and portfolio management, as well

as supporting ADB Ventures fund operations. A key ADB Ventures TA activity is the Seed program that

provides reimbursable grants to early-stage technology solutions to validate and de-risk expansion of

their products into emerging markets. The Associate will support and be involved in Seed program

activities including: (i) upstream work of creating long-term value and bankable ADB Ventures projects,

and (ii) investment activities of ADB Ventures, including deal origination across ADB's developing

member countries (DMCs), due diligence, deal execution, portfolio management, as well as portfolio

Detailed Tasks and/or Expected Output

Identify new investment trends and deal opportunities

• Perform industry research to identify investment trends and prospects

• Deal screening: call and/or meet with prospects, evaluate opportunities

• Documentation: summarize call notes, enter deals into CRM

• Network with peers in other Venture Capital Firms

Perform Due Diligence

• Gather information from target company and industry experts

• Research and talk to existing references and customers of the target company

• Research potential competitors to the target company

• Research and talk with technical experts to evaluate the target company's technology

• Conduct background checks on the current management of the target company

• Perform valuation analysis via modelling

• Help preparing internal investment memos

• Help preparing and processing investments according to ADB guidelines

• Coordinate with ADB for integrity, gender and safeguard due diligence

Portfolio Management and fund operations

• Help manage portfolio company reporting, oversight, and operations.

• Work directly with the management teams of the portfolio companies

• Support impact monitoring and aggregated report

• Support donor and investor reporting

• Support investment and company valuation modeling

Minimum Qualification Requirements


• Major in Finance/Business, Accounting, Economics or other relevant subject from a reputable university,

• MBA and/or CFA preferred but not required.

Professional experience

• Minimum 3 years relevant investment experience from private equity, venture capital, impact/technology

investment, investment banking or top-tier consulting firm,

• Demonstrable experience across the investment cycle, including deal origination, conducting end to end

due diligence, deal execution and portfolio management,

• Experience in entrepreneurship preferred,

• Experience in startups and technology, particular in cleantech, fintech, agriculture technology and

health technology preferred,

• Experience with assessing businesses and industries desirable.

• South/Southeast Asian market experience is a plus.

Required skills

• Strong financials skills, including cash flow modeling and investment valuation techniques,

• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including ability to produce professional PowerPoint

presentations and investor pitch decks,

• Outstanding analytical and problem-solving skills, detail-oriented, proactive and self-motivated,

• Team player with strong interpersonal skills, including experience working with C-suite and senior

level investment professionals,

• Knowledge of Asian languages is a plus.
